"lll Presto"
After listening to a musical piece called "lll Presto" from the "Four Seasons" musical suite, that Antonio Vivaldi composed in 1725, I have to admit that he truly is a genius when it comes to composing. I was able to create Vivid pictures in my head, visualize colours based on the emotions that I felt, and was even inspired to write a story all by listening to one simple composition!
As I was listening to the beggining of "lll Presto" the tempo was at a somewhat of an "Andante" (slow) pace and had a what you call "Tessitura" (average) pitch. The dynamic(s) during the beginning of this composition was in musical terms "Pianissimo" (soft/quiet). Overall the beginning of this composition, had some suspense to it. Therefore a suspenseful picture formed in my head. I visualized a haunted house in the middle of the woods, with skeletons surrounding it. Not only that, however, a little girl was slowly entering this house hoping to look for safety, as well. As the music of "lll Presto" continued, the tempo gradually changed from an "Andante" type of pace to a "Vivace" (very fast)) type of pace, and the pitch went from "Tessitura" to an extremely "High Tessitura" pitch. The dynamics, went from "Pianissimo" to "Pianoforte" (loud). This changed the music from sounding suspenseful to exciting and stimulating. I then visualized a scene, where two teenage kids were about to open a door that was made out of pure gold and had some words in latin. inscribed on it. In my mind the music that I was listening was able to fit in the scene because as perviously mentioned, the music sounded exciting, and I think that if someone was to open a golden door, and didn't know what was inside it, it would be pretty exciting to find out. As the musical composition was coming to an end, the tempo gradually went from the "Vivace" pace, to a "Presto" pace whereas the stayed at the "High Tessitura." The dynamics stayed at "Pianoforte" as well. With all of these music elements combined the composition sounded really pumping. The scene that I then visualized was, of a car race taking place. The reason that I pictured this scene, is because if I myself was watching a car race, I would get really pumped and excited!- If Antonio Vivaldi, can compose music that makes people visualize vivid pictures in thier head, then he truly is one of a kind!
Besides, being able to visualize pictures after listeining to "lll Presto" I was able to visualize colours as well. These colours that I visualized were (as previously mentioned) based on the emotions that I fel,t while listening to some parts of the composition! For instance: During the beginning of the musical piece, I visualized the colour black, because of the fact that the music elements that were used at that time, made the music soound very thrilling and suspenseful, and black is one of the colours that represents suspense and mystery. When I pictured the colour black, I did not just picture a blob of this colour in my mind, but pictured Antonio Vivaldi's name in the colour black. Another colour that I visualized, was the colour orange. I visualized this particular colour during the middle of the composition, when the music elements made the the music sound very stimulating. The reason that I pictured orange, was because of the fact that this colour is what you call a "warm" colour and is used to make scenes and other things look more exciting! When I was picturing this particular colour I visualized that the sun was setting, and relfecting Antonio Vivaldi's name making it look orange. In addition to black and orange, I visualized the colour red as well. I visualized this particular colour when the musical piece was coming to an end, because the music started to sound more pumping and the colour red, (to me) represents energy and excitement! When I visualized this colour, I pictured red paint everywhere. Antonio Vivaldi's music was not only able to help form vivid scenes in my head, however, also helped me reflect on the emotions that I felt.
In addition, to being able to visualize colours and vivid pictures/scenes, Antonio Vivaldi's composiiton also inspired me to write a short story. This story consists of a boy and a girl, who fell in love and wanted to gat married, however were forbbiden, because of the fact that the boy was a noble prince, while the girl was simply a peasant. These young lovers, could not bear being kept apart and therefore ran way into the middle of the forest, where they got married, had a family and lived happily ever after. To be honest, I was kind of surprised when this idea came into my head, because I was never really interested in romance novels! I don't really know why I was inspired to write this story either, however, I actually really like the plot, and so I will continue with this idea and try to make a real book! (Though this story will by no means be perfect, I think that with a little bit of help, I could really make this idea work!)
While listening to Antonio Vivaldi's music compsition, I was able to hear many different musical instruments such as: the violin, a small string instrument, the chimes ( high pitched bell instruments), the cymbals (precussion instruments) and the bass (a some what low pitched instrument). I think that these instruments were used together because, this musical piece that Antonio Vivaldi composed was energetic and pumping. Therefore he would probably need loud and high pitched instruments, to create this type of music.
Antonio Vivaldi proved that no matter when something was made (in this case composed) it may have the ability to appeal to people of other generations like me!
